In Ukraine, teachers' salaries will not be increased: what is the reason and what awaits educators

Ukrainian schools are facing a shortage of teachers due to low salaries. Unfortunately, the government does not plan to increase the pay for educators in the near future.

The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Serhiy Babak, explained: 'Young teachers are massively avoiding schools due to low salaries. The problem can be easily solved — by increasing wages. Until young specialists see the opportunity to receive a decent salary, they will not work in schools.'

Why they are paid little

According to Serhiy Babak, the law sets the minimum salary for teachers at the level of three minimum wages. However, this norm is constantly postponed due to the adoption of the state budget.

The main reason is financial pressure, especially in wartime conditions. But without adequate pay, young specialists will not go to teach in schools, Babak noted.

Increasing allowances for teachers

Starting from September 1, 2025, the amount of the allowance for teachers who work in difficult conditions will double. This applies to all educators, regardless of their place of work and the subject they teach.

It should also be noted that teachers in Ukraine can receive bonuses for certain achievements and compare their salaries with their European colleagues.

Ukrainian schools need additional measures to attract young specialists to teaching, as low salaries remain the main obstacle to entering this profession.
