Luxury Cars on a $1,000 Monthly Salary: Commission Probes Ex-Military Official's Wealth.
Scrutiny of Hennadii Kolesnikov's Asset Declaration
According to Novyny.live: A temporary investigative commission has examined the financial disclosure of Hennadii Kolesnikov, the former deputy head of the Oleksandriia military enlistment office, who has faced questions about the luxury vehicles in his household. The probe revealed that Kolesnikov's official monthly salary was 40,000 hryvnias (roughly $1,000), while his wife, Tetiana, earned over 1.15 million hryvnias last year alone.
The Kolesnikov family's vehicle collection includes:
- two VAZ-21-012 cars;
- an Audi Q5 purchased for 50,000 hryvnias—a price ten times below its market value;
- a 2012 Jaguar registered to Kolesnikov's daughter, Valeriia.
Kolesnikov explained the Jaguar by stating,
“the 2012 Jaguar is my daughter’s car.”Notably, Valeriia Kolesnikova has been living in Kyiv since 2017.
Separately, Mykola Hrinchenko, the acting head of the Oleksandriia Territorial Recruitment Center, declared a 51-square-meter apartment and a 2006 Daewoo Lanos. Meanwhile, Kolesnikov himself failed to declare a KIA vehicle he received from volunteers in his official disclosure.
When asked about her financial ability to afford such assets, Valeriia Kolesnikova retorted:
“Can't a 21-year-old save up money on their own?”
Tetiana Kolesnikova insisted the Audi Q5 purchase was straightforward: “Just find one yourself. What's the problem? I don't get it. I found it on the car market. Ukraine's car market is limitless.”
The Need for Financial Transparency
The review of Kolesnikov's declaration has uncovered several discrepancies between his reported income and assets, drawing the attention of investigators. This case highlights the critical importance of transparency in the finances of public officials, especially amid current challenges. The inconsistencies could trigger further inquiries, potentially eroding public trust in military institutions and their representatives. Authorities must ensure rigorous oversight of officials’ declarations to prevent conflicts of interest and corruption.
