The Ukrainian detained for the Nord Stream explosions declared a hunger strike in an Italian prison.
The Ukrainian Sergey Kuznetsov, who was detained in Italy on suspicion of blowing up the 'Nord Stream', declared a hunger strike. The man is in a high-security prison. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing lawyer Nicola Canestrini, as quoted by 'Babel'.
Hunger strike as a protest
According to inkorr.com: According to the human rights defender, Kuznetsov has been refusing food since October 31, demanding respect for his fundamental rights, including the right to adequate nutrition, a healthy environment, dignified detention conditions, as well as equal treatment of other inmates regarding family visits and access to information. The lawyer also noted that since the moment of the Ukrainian's arrest in Italy on August 22, 2025, he has not been provided with a diet suitable for his health condition, which led to a deterioration in his physical state.
Extradition to Germany
It should be noted that the Italian court on Monday, October 27, finally approved the extradition of the Ukrainian suspect to Germany. He is accused of participating in the sabotage of the 'Nord Stream' pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. This decision paves the way for German prosecutors to directly interrogate the suspect in connection with the explosions that destroyed three of the four strands of the pipelines.
Kuznetsov was arrested in August 2025 near the Italian city of Rimini, where he was vacationing with his family. Since then, he has been held in a high-security prison in northern Italy. The German federal prosecutor accuses him of jointly committing the explosions and constitutional sabotage.
Thus, the Ukrainian suspected of blowing up the 'Nord Stream' and detained in Italy has declared a hunger strike in protest to defend his rights. Local and international organizations are monitoring the developments, and German prosecutors are already preparing to interrogate the suspect in connection with his extradition.
