Odessa Mobilization Official Arrested for Selling Draft Deferments.
Military Official Apprehended in Odessa
According to Novyny.live: A staff member from a district Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRSC) in Odessa has been detained on suspicion of corruption. The suspect was allegedly offering to remove individuals from wanted lists and provide military draft deferments in exchange for money. The arrest was made during a handover of funds, demonstrating proactive measures by law enforcement to combat such abuses. These centers are responsible for conscription and mobilization in Ukraine, making internal corruption a significant threat to national defense.
The suspect, who worked in the notification department of the TRSC, is accused of demanding 9,000 hryvnias to remove a person from a wanted list and $6,000 to secure employment at a critical infrastructure enterprise, which would grant a legal deferment. The key exchange of money took place near a residential complex on Henuezka Street.
Legal Consequences and Case Severity
The prosecutor's office has already served a notice of suspicion for abuse of influence under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If convicted, the suspect faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. The severity of such crimes is underscored by a related case involving a military unit commander in the Mykolaiv region, where state losses reached nearly 2 million hryvnias, highlighting the scale of corruption schemes in this sector.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of Ukrainian authorities to root out corruption, particularly within military and mobilization structures where it directly compromises national security. Ensuring transparency and integrity in state institutions is critically important during wartime, as these issues directly impact mobilization efforts and the country's overall defensive capabilities.
