The situation is complicated by the increasing Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. On the same day, the Russian Federation carried out a massive shelling of the railway depot in Odesa, resulting in injuries to a train driver. Attacks also occurred in other regions: railway tracks and energy facilities were damaged in Sumy and Chernihiv regions, leading to local power outages.
According to the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, the enemy's new tactic –
“Shahedi are hunting for locomotives”– is aimed at paralyzing logistics and isolating the front from the rear.
What Damage Has Ukrzaliznytsia Objects Sustained in Autumn 2025
These events are part of systematic attacks by the Russian Federation on the railway since the beginning of the full-scale aggression. The enemy is attempting to disrupt the supply of weapons and humanitarian aid. Here are the main consequences of the recent attacks:
- Damage to the depot in Odesa: injury to one driver, delays in trains in the south.
- Attacks in Sumy region: destruction of energy networks, power outages in frontline villages.
- Strikes in Chernihiv region: damage to railway bridges, complicated cargo traffic.
Ukrzaliznytsia has already strengthened security measures: backup routes have been introduced, ticket office schedules have been extended, and repair teams have been optimized. According to the company, despite the attacks, 95% of trains operate on schedule, and the online system usually restores within 2-3 hours in such situations.
Experts predict that by the evening of October 2, the services will resume operations, but advise passengers to check updates via Telegram.
It was previously reported that Ukrzaliznytsia is launching direct trains from Uzhhorod to Vienna and Budapest.
This situation has posed a significant challenge for Ukrzaliznytsia, which is striving to ensure uninterrupted train movement and passenger safety despite military threats. Attacks on infrastructure underscore the importance of ensuring reliable railway connections to support supplies during the war.
