Zelensky discussed the reform of anti-corruption bodies with Starmer.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer. The parties discussed a number of important issues, including sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the head of state on Telegram.
Zelensky thanked the United Kingdom for its leadership during the recent 'Ramstein' format meeting and the important results in supporting Ukraine. The President noted the new sanctions by the United Kingdom against Russia aimed at restricting revenue from oil sales.
The Ukrainian leader informed the UK Prime Minister about yesterday's meeting with the Russian side in Istanbul, the result of which was an agreement on a new prisoner exchange. During the negotiations, the Ukrainian delegation emphasized that there should be a ceasefire and proposed to hold a leaders' meeting by the end of August.
During the conversation, the leaders also discussed diplomatic work with partners in Europe and the United States to enhance security. The head of state also informed about the preparation of a bill that will strengthen the system of law enforcement agencies and guarantee the independence and effectiveness of the anti-corruption infrastructure.
Keir Starmer proposed to involve experts who would be useful for long-term cooperation. The leaders agreed to stay in contact on this issue. They share a common vision: 'it is necessary to defend the value of normal life, counter any Russian influence and interference, and do everything to make Europe stronger.'
It is worth noting that recently Prime Minister Keir Starmer hinted that the United Kingdom may join Germany in purchasing weapons from the USA for Ukraine. Earlier he announced plans to put the country's armed forces on a 'state of combat readiness.'
Kyiv and London continue active cooperation on security issues and support for Ukraine in the context of sanctions against Russia. The prisoner exchange and diplomatic negotiations on enhancing security in Europe remain relevant topics on the agenda of joint work.Read also
