Zelensky signed a law on the war with Russia: official name and start date.
According to inkorr.com: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky approved the law 'On National Memory', which officially enshrines the term 'War for the Independence of Ukraine' for the conflict with Russia. This was reported by 'Glavkom', referring to information from the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the document, the start of the war is considered to be February 19, 2014 - the day when the Russian invasion of Crimea began. The new law clearly defines the war as 'a struggle for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of Ukraine'.
The law also emphasizes that the war is the result of 'a consistent Russian imperial policy' aimed at destroying Ukrainian statehood and identity.
Previously, White House spokesperson Carolyn Levitt stated that US President Donald Trump was dissatisfied with the Russian strike on Kyiv, but it 'did not surprise' him. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to a briefing.
He was dissatisfied with this news, but was not surprised,' said the spokesperson about Trump's reaction.
Events after the attack on Kyiv
Recall that on the night of August 28, the Russian occupying army launched an attack on Kyiv using drones and missiles. Head of the Kyiv Military Administration Timur Tkachенко reported that as a result of the Russian strike, 22 people were killed.
It is known that as a result of the massive combined attack by Russia, the office of 'Ukrainian Pravda' and the editorial office of 'Radio Free Europe' were damaged.
Day of mourning in Kyiv
On Friday, August 29, a Day of Mourning was declared in Kyiv in memory of the victims of the massive enemy attack on the capital, which occurred on the night of August 28. 'On this day, flags will be lowered on all municipal buildings in the city. It is also recommended to lower state flags on the buildings of state and private ownership. Any entertainment events are prohibited in the city on August 29,' said Klitchko.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga also reported that as a result of the occupants' strike on Kyiv, the building of the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine was damaged.
The introduction of the law 'On National Memory' emphasizes the importance of recognizing the conflict with Russia as a struggle for the independence of the Ukrainian people, as this war has been ongoing for many years. At the same time, the day of mourning declared in Kyiv reflects the deep pain and losses that the country has suffered as a result of aggression. The reaction of the international community and the correct interpretation of events such as the attack on Kyiv remain important for supporting Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty.
