Zelenskyy Warns of Continued Russian Strikes on Ukraine's Energy Grid This Spring

Latest Updates on the War in Ukraine

According to TSN.ua: In his nightly address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces are preparing new strikes on critical facilities and do not intend to reduce the intensity of their attacks on Ukraine's energy system in the near future. He emphasized that Russia will not decrease the number of assaults on critical infrastructure this spring. This warning comes as Ukraine's energy network remains a primary target, having suffered severe damage from coordinated missile and drone attacks since the winter. Ukraine's main tasks are now preparing for these anticipated attacks and systematically strengthening the energy grid ahead of the next cold season.

Zelenskyy stressed the critical importance of implementing a national resilience strategy, which requires incorporating the best practices from all regions.

"We must now take all the best experience from the regions, detailed tasks for our military and our diplomacy, and implement the two parts of the nationwide strategy," he said.
The President also highlighted the necessity for alternative energy sources, tangible physical protection, and additional capacity for power generation and heating:
"Alternative generation and heating supply, additional energy sources, real protection—all of this must be in place."

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to community leaders for presenting their resilience plans, underscoring that the country must be ready for new challenges arising from the continuation of Russian attacks. The destruction of energy infrastructure is a central element of Russia's campaign to weaken Ukrainian morale and industrial capacity.

The President's statement underscores the grave situation regarding Ukraine's energy security amid persistent Russian threats. Implementing the resilience strategy and leveraging regional experience could be key factors in ensuring energy independence and preparedness for potential assaults. These measures are also vital for the nation's overall economic stability, as the energy infrastructure is critically important for the functioning of all sectors.
