Zelenskyy Warns of Russia's Push to Draw Belarus into War with Ukraine.
Statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of attempting to pull Belarus into the war against Ukraine. In an interview with the Belarusian media outlet 'Dzerkalo', he highlighted the danger posed by military equipment stationed in Belarus, a threat he said extends to both Ukraine and Europe.
Zelenskyy pointed to Russia's use of Shahed drone relay stations on Belarusian soil.
“The relay stations for modern 'Shahed' drones are new equipment that has now appeared on Belarusian territory and is helping to strike our people and energy infrastructure,”said Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This development marks a new phase of military activity in the region and signals a shift in the frontline situation.
The Situation in Belarus and Its Consequences
Furthermore, the president stressed that Alexander Lukashenko is constructing a plant for artillery and rocket ammunition for Russia in the Minsk region. Zelenskyy stated,
“It is no longer possible to say, as Lukashenko told me after the start of the full-scale invasion, that missiles flew and they had been stationed here for a long time, and that they don't control it.”This indicates a worsening situation between the countries, with Belarus becoming an active participant in the conflict.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that “this is all about new steps, not the old ones that 'did not depend' on Lukashenko, as he said about it.” These statements underscore the serious threat emanating from Belarus and point to the need for the international community to pay attention to the regional situation. Belarus's strategic location makes its deepening involvement a critical concern for European security.
Zelenskyy's remarks highlight Belarus's growing role in the conflict, signaling not just a military threat but also political shifts in the region. Belarus's engagement in active hostilities could have serious consequences for the security of not only Ukraine but also neighboring European countries. This underscores the importance of an international response and a clear understanding of the evolving situation in Eastern Europe.
