Alexander Grigorievich Lukaschenko - a pro-Russian Belarusian politician, head of state and military, de facto - President of Belarus and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Belarus since July 20, 1994. After the 2020 elections, his legitimacy has not been recognized by the European Union, the USA, the UK, Canada, Ukraine, and a number of other countries since September 23 of the same year.

On February 24, 2022, after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he provided the territory of Belarus to the Russian troops as a starting point for advancing into Ukraine and for missile strikes, effectively involving Belarus in the war. Russian troops were already present on the territory of Belarus before that, officially however 'during military exercises'.

In 1975, he graduated from the historical faculty of the Mogilev Pedagogical Institute with a degree as a 'History and Social Studies Teacher'. In 1985, the Belarusian Agricultural Academy (Economist of the Agricultural Industry).

Career. After military service, he worked in Komsomol and party organizations, in economic positions of companies in the construction industry and the agricultural sector of the Belarusian SSR.

From 1977 to 1994, he was the secretary of the Komsomol committee of the Mogilev food trade, deputy chairman of the kolkhoz 'Udarnik' in the Shklow district of the Mogilev region, deputy director of the construction plant in Shklow, secretary of the party committee of the Lenin kolkhoz and director of the state farm 'Gorodets' in the Shklow district.

In 1990, Alexander Lukaschenko was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR. He was the only deputy who voted against the ratification of the Belavezha Agreements that dissolved the Soviet Union. In 1993, he chaired the temporary parliamentary committee to combat corruption, which was set up to investigate the business activities of trade structures with authorities.

On July 10, 1994, he was elected the first President of the Republic of Belarus. He received more than 80% of the votes. He outperformed five competitors (including the chairman of the Supreme Soviet Stanislav Shushkevich, who, along with Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kravchuk, dissolved the USSR and founded the CIS).

Decisions were made at popular referendums initiated by Alexander Lukaschenko in 1995 and 1996 to recognize the Russian language as the state language, for economic integration with Russia, for the introduction of new state symbols, for the president's right to dissolve the parliament in case of violations of the constitution, and for adopting the president's draft constitution.
