Zelensky Reports on the Aftermath of Russia's March 24 Assault on Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has detailed the consequences of a large-scale Russian attack on multiple Ukrainian cities on March 24. The assault, which involved both drones and missiles, left more than 40 people wounded, among them five children. Over the course of the day, Ukrainian forces recorded more than 550 enemy drones of various types.

The strikes continued throughout the day and into the night.

“Today, practically around the clock starting from the night, Russia has been hitting Ukraine with Shahed drones. There was a massive overnight strike involving both missiles and Shaheds. Throughout the day, new waves of drones came. More than 550 drones of different types in just one day, a significant number of them being Shaheds,” Zelensky stated.
Civilians were harmed across several regions, including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Rivne Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The attacks also destroyed civilian infrastructure, notably damaging Lviv's historic center and a maternity hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk.

The president expressed his condolences to the victims' families:

“Unfortunately, there are fatalities. My condolences to their families and loved ones. As of now, we know of more than 40 injured, including five children. Everyone is receiving the necessary assistance.”

Peace Talks and Security Concerns

Separately, Zelensky addressed the status of peace negotiations. He noted that despite a briefing from the Ukrainian negotiating team that had returned from the United States, no real progress has been made on peace initiatives.

“Unfortunately, Russia does not want to move toward peace. But it is crucial that we in Ukraine, the United States, Europeans, and other global actors do everything possible, everything necessary, to make the Russians genuinely and honestly interested in diplomacy,” he said.

Zelensky emphasized that any peace must be reliable: “That is our goal, and it will happen. And we will respond to the attacks. Without fail.”

This assault serves as yet another stark reminder of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its severe toll on civilians. As diplomatic efforts continue to stall, the situation remains highly volatile, underscoring the urgent need for sustained international support and robust security guarantees for Ukraine in the face of aggression.
