Zelenskyy Holds Emergency Briefing on Regional Damage Following Russian Strikes.
Ukrainian President Chairs Situation Report on Affected Regions
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an emergency situation briefing to address the aftermath of Russian strikes across the country. The meeting focused on ongoing rescue operations and restoration efforts, reviewing the impact of the attacks and the measures being implemented to restore normal civilian life. These high-level briefings are a regular feature of Ukraine's crisis response as it endures a prolonged campaign of attacks on its civilian infrastructure.
Regional Impact and Response
On January 28, 2023, a Russian drone attack in the Kyiv region killed two people, though a four-year-old boy was successfully rescued. The situation in the capital remains severe, with over 700 buildings still without heating. In Kryvyi Rih, 243 buildings are also without heat, highlighting the widespread nature of the crisis.
In Zaporizhzhia, emergency services continue to work on clearing the damage from Russian shelling to restore critical infrastructure. Separately, in Odesa, the Russian attack damaged the Holy Dormition Monastery for men. President Zelenskyy noted that significant power outages for consumers are continuing in the Kyiv region.
Zelenskyy also reported that necessary resources have been deployed in the Dnipropetrovsk region to repair damage from strikes on energy facilities. Given the scale of the situation, coordinating efforts between the following regions has been identified as a critical priority:
- Kharkiv
- Sumy
- Chernihiv
- Odesa
- Kirovohrad
- Poltava
- Vinnytsia
- Mykolaiv
- Chernivtsi
- Kherson
These coordinated actions are aimed at ensuring security and restoring normal function to the impacted areas.
The post-attack situation remains critical, with many regions facing severe problems with energy infrastructure and housing conditions. Authorities are actively working to clear the consequences of the shelling and restore damaged facilities, a vital step in ensuring stability and safety for the population. The emphasis on inter-regional coordination underscores the necessity for a unified national response in the face of ongoing aggression.
