Court Fines Sokal Woman for Falsifying Child's Medical Documents.
Medical Certificate Fraud Uncovered in Sokal
According to TSN.ua: A woman from Sokal has been fined and ordered to repay funds after she forged a medical certificate to fraudulently claim state benefits. The case centered on her fabrication of documents stating her child had a severe illness, which she then used as the basis to apply for government assistance.
The Sokal District Court of Lviv Oblast delivered its verdict against the woman, who initiated her scheme in March 2024. To carry out the fraud, she obtained a forged certificate, number 3278, purportedly issued by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children's Hospital. Over the following six months, she illicitly received payments totaling 28,116 hryvnias, an activity that eventually aroused the suspicions of law enforcement agencies. This type of fraud undermines a vital social safety net designed to assist genuinely vulnerable families.
Court Ruling and Consequences
The court found the woman guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code. As a consequence, she was sentenced to pay a fine of 34,000 hryvnias. Furthermore, she is legally obligated to repay the full amount of state funds she received, a penalty that underscores the serious repercussions for defrauding social welfare systems.
This case serves as a stark example of the consequences for attempting to exploit social security programs. It highlights the ongoing vigilance of Ukrainian authorities in detecting and prosecuting such abuses to protect public resources intended for those in legitimate need.
