Ukrainian pensioner shows record pension increase

The largest pension in Ukraine has begun to be received by former people's deputy Serhiy Kivalov from the Party of Regions. He filed a lawsuit demanding a recalculation of payments, and his pension was increased 17 times, becoming the record in the country.

According to Oboz.ua, Kivalov receives nearly 3 million hryvnias every month - 245,990 UAH 46 kopecks - from the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

In April 2020, Kivalov appealed to the Pension Fund to recalculate his pension due to the increase in the salaries of people's deputies and his own salary at the International Humanitarian University. He used an old provision of the law that allowed receiving a pension up to 90% of a deputy's salary, despite the fact that it was no longer in effect.

The Pension Fund refused the recalculation, but Kivalov filed a lawsuit. He presented a certificate of his salary as a people's deputy-chairman of the committee and a certificate of income from the International Humanitarian University, where his income had significantly increased.

Judge of the Odesa District Administrative Court Mykhailo Kravchenko decided to satisfy Kivalov's claim and obliged the Pension Fund to recalculate his pension without limiting the maximum amount.

It is worth noting that such an abnormally large pension is only received by judges of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, and heads of appellate courts in the form of 'lifetime financial support.'

Kivalov was previously referred to as the 'shadow curator of the judicial system' during Yanukovych's Time, and he was attributed with influence over the judicial corps. He worked in the High Council of Justice for 19 years.

The receipt of a record pension by Serhiy Kivalov in Ukraine is a challenge for the country's pension payment system.
