UAF slowed advance in Kursk region – ISW.
Ukrainian troops hold certain areas of Kursk region
According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the advance of the UAF in the Kursk region has slowed. Ukrainian troops are trying to consolidate and maintain control over certain areas they recently took under their wing.
Analysts from the Institute report that the pace of Ukrainian military attacks in the Kursk region has decreased. Currently, the UAF are focusing on holding certain areas.
According to other military bloggers, Russian troops are gradually stabilizing the situation in the Kursk region. Geolocated footage dated August 28 shows Russian troops operating in the eastern village of Korenovo. It is likely that the UAF recently withdrew from this area, and Russian troops have regained some lost positions.
One of the Russian military bloggers claims that Ukrainian troops hold control over the villages of Vetrno, Kremyane and Sheptukhivka (all to the east and northeast of Korenevo); within the eastern Nechayev and Cherkassky Porichne (both to the northeast of Sudzha); and in the field to the south of Spalno (southeast of Sudzha).
The Russian Ministry of Defense and other Russian sources also report that the UAF attacked Russian positions to the east of Korenevo near Olgovka, to the north of Sudzha near Malaya Loknya, to the east of Sudzha near Russkaya Konopelka, and to the southeast of Sudzha near the village of Borki.
According to Russian bloggers, units of the 810th Marine Brigade (Pacific Fleet, Eastern Military District) have regained control over the settlement of Spirne.
Meanwhile, another Russian blogger stated on August 28 that Russians repelled attempts by the UAF to cross the international border near Zhuravlivka in the Belgorod region.
David Cohen, Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), warned that the Russian army might attempt a counteroffensive to regain control of territories in the Kursk region. He also noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin seeks to expel Ukrainian forces from Kursk as soon as possible, but his army may face serious resistance.
It should be noted that Ukraine currently controls 1294 km² of the Kursk region, including 100 settlements.
