December 14: Day of the Five Holy Martyrs and Folk Signs about the Weather.
According to ТСН: Today in the Orthodox calendar is the day of remembrance of the holy martyrs Tyrsius, Leucius, Philemon, Apollonius, and Calinicus. These saints are honored as martyrs for Christ, and their memory is celebrated in the Eastern Christian calendar. Their lives are closely linked to the persecutions of Christians in the early centuries of our era during the Roman Empire.
Holy Martyrs
Tyrsius was a Christian from Lycia or Asia Minor. He led a pious life and spread the Christian faith. For preaching Christ, he was tortured and executed, but according to legend, he endured numerous tortures and did not renounce his faith.
Leucius came from Lycia or Paphlagonia. He served in the Christian community and actively preached faith among pagans. Leucius also underwent numerous tortures, but remained steadfast. According to legends, he accepted a martyr's death for Christ.
Little is known about his early life, but he was a fervent Christian who helped other believers and spread Christian teaching. For his faith, he was arrested and executed.
Apollonius, another holy martyr, was also a Christian from Asia Minor. He dedicated his life to serving God and supporting the community. Apollonius was tortured but remained faithful until the very end.
Calinicus, another saint, came from Asia Minor. He is known as a fervent Christian and preacher. Like the other martyrs, he suffered a martyr's death, refusing to renounce his faith in Christ.
