Dentists unveil the secret to healthy teeth during the holidays: why you shouldn't brush them right away.
According to ТСН: Many people during the holidays pay attention to their figure but often forget about the health of their teeth. The dentist shared an important tip that is useful to follow after every meal to keep teeth healthy during the festive season.
Be careful with enamel!
Holiday treats and carbonated drinks can negatively affect tooth enamel. Dentist Mala Sabharwal recommends adopting one simple habit.
"You shouldn't brush your teeth immediately after eating something sweet or sour. This is a mistake that harms the enamel. It's better to just rinse your mouth with clean water and wait a bit for your teeth to have time to recover," advises Mala.
She emphasizes that this method protects teeth since water helps dilute harmful acids found in many foods and drinks. It can also reduce enamel erosion and the risk of cavities.
Avoid harmful sweets
According to Mala, the biggest threat to teeth during the holidays comes from toffees and sticky candies that can damage fillings and crowns. The dentist recommends avoiding such sweets, and if consumed, to drink plenty of water afterward to wash away the sugar.
It's also important to limit frequent sweet snacks and consume desserts only during the main meal, finishing with a glass of water to protect the enamel.
"The same method (rinsing the mouth with clean water — Ed.) should be applied after consuming mulled wine, as the acidity of this drink can damage tooth enamel," the dentist noted.
Additionally, she recommends using a straw to reduce the risk of dark stains on teeth when consuming similar drinks.
Dental health during the holidays is important not only for the beauty of your smile but also for your overall well-being. By following the simple tips from the dentist, you can enjoy festive dinners without harming your teeth. Remember, prevention is always better than treatment, and your teeth deserve special attention during this time of excessive treat consumption.
