NBU warned about the confiscation of cash at the border: new rules for Ukrainians

According to ТСН: In Ukraine, there are clear rules regarding the transportation of cash across the border. Violating these rules may result in losing some of your funds.

The National Bank of Ukraine clarified the legislation that allows individuals to export any amount of cash. However, without filling out a customs declaration, it is only allowed to transport money within the specified limit.

In particular, Ukrainians with resident status can cross the border with cash not exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 euros (approximately 498,500 UAH). In this case, leaving the country happens without declaration and without providing documents verifying the source of the money.

If the amount of cash exceeds the specified limit, the individual is required to declare the funds and provide documents that confirm their legality.

The following documents are required:

  • ATM receipt or payment terminal receipt

  • Bank statement showing the flow of funds in the account

  • Order or payment instruction for receiving cash

  • Document confirming a foreign exchange operation

  • Fiscal receipt for cash issuance to holders of electronic payment instruments

“The absence of such documents during the transportation of an amount that exceeds the permitted threshold is considered a violation of the customs legislation of Ukraine,”

— clarified the agency.

It should also be remembered that new crossing rules are being introduced at the borders with European Union countries: a system for automatic recording of foreigners’ entry and exit is being launched.

As cash transportation rules are constantly changing, it is important to keep track of updates to avoid misunderstandings and penalties at the border. Having all necessary documents can significantly simplify the process and reduce the risks when crossing the border.
