According to ТСН: Ukraine is experiencing an anomalous cold spell that meteorologists consider one of the strongest in recent years. Frosts, heavy snowfall, and strong winds have led to serious problems in the energy sector, complicated transport movements, and damage to infrastructure in many regions.

Kyiv: Network Failures and Risk of Long-Term Outages

In the capital, part of the population may remain without electricity for an extended period. DTEK explains this as a combination of massive attacks from Russia, strong frosts, and overloads in the power grid.

As of the evening, more than 200 reports of power outages have been recorded. To eliminate accidents, 57 repair crews are working around the clock. Energy workers urge residents not to turn on powerful appliances simultaneously to avoid new accidents.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted that the situation in the city is critical. He emphasized that after Russian strikes, hundreds of thousands of people have been without electricity and heating for the second day, while temperatures at night drop to -20 °C.

“We urge people without heating, who have the opportunity to leave or stay warm with relatives, to do so until the problems are resolved,” Klitschko stressed.

The mayor also noted that Russia is trying to deliberately destroy heat and electricity infrastructure, while resources for air defense remain limited, even for protecting the capital.

Lviv and Western Ukraine: Snowfalls and Transport Restrictions

Lviv has been buried under record snowfalls that have lasted several days. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged residents to refrain from traveling, and school students have been temporarily put on pause in their studies.

Utility services are working continuously; additional teams, including city workers, are involved in the city's cleaning efforts.

The situation in Prykarpattia is even more complicated: in some sections of the R-24 highway, snowdrifts exceed a person's height. Special equipment has been clearing roads through snow barriers, while patrol police have assisted drivers stuck in snow traps. Subsequently, traffic restrictions were lifted.

Strong frosts have also led to a rare phenomenon – the complete freezing of the Manyavskyi Waterfall, which only happens during prolonged cold periods.

South and East: Wind Damages Infrastructure

In the Zaporizhzhia region, strong gusts of wind have damaged the supports of anti-drone tunnels on frontline roads. According to OVA head Ivan Fedorov, engineering units have already been engaged in restoring the structures that protect logistics routes.

Railway: Delays of Dozens of Trains

Due to bad weather, security measures, and delays at the border, over 60 trains of Ukrzaliznytsia are operating off schedule. This affects both domestic routes and international connections. Railway workers are working to eliminate the consequences of shelling and weather conditions to gradually stabilize traffic.

Forecast: Frosts Persist

According to data from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, frosty weather will persist across the country on January 12. In northern regions, nighttime temperatures may fall to -24 °C, while in most regions – from -12 to -18 °C. Meteorologists warn that only slight temperature fluctuations may occur ahead, but the prolonged cold will remain.

Strong frosts of -30 degrees in Ukraine are currently not expected. Forecasts indicate that from January 17, a easing of cold may occur, although information may change.

Thus, the situation in Ukraine remains complicated due to anomalous weather conditions. Local authorities and energy workers are taking measures to mitigate negative consequences. To ensure stability, it is essential to follow specialists' recommendations and be prepared for new challenges.
