Russian drones left 60 thousand people without electricity and water in Volyn.
According to ТСН: As of the evening of January 1, 2025, in the city of Kovel (Volyn region), work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the night attack by Russian drones. Local residents are clearing debris and boarding up broken windows after the night explosions.
Situation in the region
According to the head of the Kovel District State Administration Olha Cheren, more than 60 thousand residents of the district were left without electricity and water supply due to a powerful strike on critical infrastructure. Water supply is being restored gradually, and for those who are left without light and heat, 83 resilience points have been opened.
Damage to housing
Residents of apartment buildings report that the shock wave blew out windows in their apartments. Some used mattresses or film to temporarily cover windows to protect against the cold. People say that during the night of the shelling, they stayed in shelters due to the loud noise of explosions and alarms.
In the apartment building where residents describe the damage, 15 out of 72 apartments have blown-out windows. The head of the homeowners' association (OSBB) Stepan Bondar reported that the documentation of the damage and the filing of claims for compensation are ongoing.
Actions of authorities and rescue services
The local authorities and utility services are actively working on restoring the damaged windows and other consequences of the shelling. They have also agreed with local businesses to temporarily cover windows with plywood or replace glass.
According to the head of the Volyn OVA Ivan Rudnytsky, no one was injured during the night attack, and the fires at infrastructure sites caused by the drone strikes were quickly extinguished by Ukrainian rescuers.
It should be noted that during the UAV attack in Lutsk, a strong fire broke out.
The situation in Kovel remains difficult, but the local authorities are doing everything possible to restore communications and help those affected. The restoration of infrastructure and housing may take some time, but residents can count on support from the state and volunteers. In such moments, community solidarity becomes especially important.
