Turkey on Peace Between Ukraine and Russia: What Conditions Moscow Sets.
According to ТСН: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that after four years of war, Ukraine and Russia, in his opinion, show a greater willingness for peace talks. He also believes that Moscow has the readiness to cease hostilities under certain conditions.
In an interview with the newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Fidan emphasized that the war has shown both sides the 'extent of losses and destruction' as well as their capabilities.
“After four years of exhausting war, the parties are more inclined to seek peace than before,” said Fidan.
He added that Vladimir Putin is reportedly 'willing to agree to' a ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement, but only 'under certain conditions' which have not been revealed.
Fidan also pointed out that these conditions have been transmitted to Ukraine, and Turkey is actively involved in discussing their details.
Questions of Security Guarantees
The minister emphasized the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine and underscored the commitments of the USA, comparing them to Article 5 of NATO. He also mentioned maintaining the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces and their potential.
In his opinion, Russia views limiting the number of the Ukrainian army as part of its own guarantees.
Previously, it was reported that a meeting of delegations from Ukraine and the USA took place in Florida. The Ukrainian delegation was led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, who has replaced Andrij Yermak. The American side was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump's special envoy Richard Vitkoff, and presidential advisor Jared Kushner.
Against the backdrop of the growing willingness of both sides to negotiate, the role of international partners remains crucial. In particular, Turkey, which is involved in this process, could become an important mediator in achieving a peace agreement. The further development of negotiations and the parties' reactions to the requirements could significantly influence the situation in the region.
