The GUR Fighter Told How Scouts Landed at Azovstal in 2022.
In 2022, operations for landing took place in Mariupol, which was blocked by Russian occupiers. This information was provided by a serviceman of the international legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate under the pseudonym 'Tritiya'.
As the Russians controlled the exits of the Mariupol seaport, the waterway was inaccessible. Therefore, the only option was an air landing. 'Tritiya' was one of the first who arrived by helicopter and landed at the 'Azovstal' plant.
Participants of the operation used intelligence data and tactical characteristics of target destruction systems (SAM) to develop a route. They bypassed or flew unnoticed over areas with SAM systems, using the terrain and flight altitude. In case helicopters were to be spotted, the route was planned in such a way that their destruction would become difficult or impossible.
'Tritiya' mentioned that they landed where it was possible, found shelter, and contacted their comrades. After that, a vehicle arrived at the site.
The most terrifying moment for the fighters was the moment when they landed over 'Azovstal' in the morning. From a bird's eye view, they saw the destroyed Mariupol burning.
Recall that active hostilities at 'Azovstal' began on March 18, 2022. At the beginning of March, Russian troops surrounded Mariupol itself. However, the 'Azovstal' plant remained under Ukrainian control, as Ukrainian soldiers, including those from the 'Azov' regiment, defended it.
On April 1, Vladimir Putin canceled the order to storm 'Azovstal' and ordered Russian troops to block the territory of the plant. However, according to the Ukrainian side, bombings and attempts to storm continued further.
Military personnel and civilians who remained at the 'Azovstal' plant were under blockade. They lacked water, food, medicine, and ammunition.
Only on May 20 did the 'Azovstal' plant come completely under the control of Russian occupiers.
