Why Mobile Communication Disappears During Blackouts: Operators' Explanations.
According to ТСН: During blackouts in Ukraine caused by Russian strikes on infrastructure, some mobile and internet subscribers complain about the deterioration of the quality of these services.
There are cases when, attempting to call within the country, subscribers hear the message: 'To make a call, you need to register on the network.'
In one of the operators' contact centers, they denied that
'the SIM card could become demagnetized due to the load during the power outage', while in the service center of another operator, they expressed suspicion of its
'burning'due to the load. However, representatives of several operators in their official responses claim that SIM cards will not
'burn'due to electricity disconnection.
Why Communication and Internet Disappear
The reasons for the deterioration of communication during power outages and ways to improve it were highlighted by TSN.ua in conversations with representatives of the operators.
Unlike contact centers and service points, operators assure that power outages do not affect the operation of SIM cards. However, there are a number of other nuances that can negatively impact mobile communication and internet speed.
'It happens that SIM cards fail. But as of now, this is not a widespread phenomenon', said the PR manager of one of the companies that provides communication services.
In another large company, they noted that various communication problems arise due to power outages.
'If a subscriber hears a message stating that they need to register on the network, that is unlikely to be related to the power outage. The network is designed to work for up to 10 hours, there are no communication accidents', the company emphasizes. They explain that increased load during prolonged blackouts affects the quality of communication and the speed of mobile internet.
People's Deputy Oleksandr Fediyenko, commenting on the situation with communication and the internet, noted:
'I have never heard that a SIM card can 'burn' due to a power outage'. He believes that the problems are caused by a lack of energy when batteries at base stations do not have time to charge, leading to
'dropouts'of some stations from the overall network.
Fediyenko also emphasized that if a subscriber changes their location and the SIM card connects to another base station, the problem may be resolved.
Improving Communication During Power Outages
Representatives of mobile operators offer several simple tips:
Ensure the router works with an external battery. This will not only allow access to the internet but also reduce the load on the operators' network.
Set a priority SIM card that provides access to mobile internet in slot #1 of your device.
Turn off auto-loading media in messengers and do not use video hosting, as this allows you to download videos for offline viewing.
The situation with communication in Ukraine remains challenging, especially under ongoing power outages. The lack of energy affects the operation of base stations and, consequently, the quality of communication. Subscribers should take specialists' advice into account to minimize communication issues during blackouts. Operators continue to work on improving their services, adapting them to the new challenges of the times.
