A Sharp Price Shock Hits Ukraine's Fuel Market

According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's fuel market is bracing for another significant price increase as global oil prices climb, driving up costs at gas stations across the country. In the coming days, gasoline is expected to rise to 85 hryvnias per liter, while diesel fuel will jump to 95 hryvnias per liter. This development comes amid ongoing economic pressures stemming from the war and supply chain disruptions.

Currently, the wholesale price of diesel at Ukraine's border stands at 81 hryvnias per liter, with gasoline wholesale prices hovering around 70 hryvnias per liter. Global Brent crude oil prices have stabilized between $105 and $110 per barrel, a key factor directly influencing fuel costs in Ukraine.

What Lies Ahead for the Market

Analysts predict that once the market stabilizes, diesel prices will settle at approximately 85 hryvnias per liter, while gasoline will level off at 78 hryvnias per liter. According to Dmytro Lyoshkin,

“We will move quickly because companies have exhausted their resources, and working capital is being drained. They cannot sell today at 77 hryvnias and then buy tomorrow at 82 hryvnias per liter.”

With global market prices on the rise, Ukrainian consumers are expected to feel the pinch of significantly higher fuel costs soon, which could ripple into the prices of other goods and services. This increase may trigger a chain reaction across various economic sectors, particularly transportation and logistics, ultimately affecting the cost of both food and non-food items. Amid ongoing energy market instability, Ukrainian households should prepare for further shifts in fuel expenses, potentially impacting the country's overall inflation rate.
