Pension Hikes for Chornobyl Victims Take Effect in March: Here’s What They’ll Now Receive.
Chornobyl Survivors See Pension Increases
According to Novyny.live: Starting March 1, 2026, Ukraine has raised pensions, including for those affected by the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. Under the updated rules, payments were recalculated using a factor of 1.121, leading to higher benefits across multiple population groups. This adjustment is part of broader efforts to address the financial needs of individuals still grappling with the disaster's long-term consequences.
New Minimum Pension Amounts
Based on the law 'On the Status and Social Protection of Citizens Affected by the Chornobyl Disaster,' the updated minimum pension amounts for people with disabilities are as follows:
- Group I: 11,048 UAH per month, an increase of 1,190 UAH from the previous level;
- Group II: 8,838 UAH, representing a rise of roughly 950 UAH;
- Group III and children with disabilities: 6,813 UAH, with an additional increase of over 735 UAH.
The average salary used in the pension recalculation formula stands at 9,992 UAH. These changes aim to improve the financial situation of those impacted by the Chornobyl catastrophe and ensure adequate social protection for this vulnerable segment of the population.
Raising pensions for Chornobyl victims marks a significant step toward social justice and support for vulnerable groups.
By factoring in inflation and shifts in average wages, the government underscores its commitment to providing a decent standard of living for those who suffered from the disaster. This move may also signal further social reforms in Ukraine's pension system.
