Family left on the airport floor after easyJet flight emergency landing
According to The Sun: A family was forced to spend the night on the airport floor after their easyJet flight made an emergency landing 650 miles from their destination.
Kennedy NewsThey claim the budget airline 'abandoned' them in a foreign country and refused to refund their money, leaving the family in despair.
Kennedy NewsEmergency landing due to crew issues
Darren Rain was flying with his family from Luton to Crete last month when their flight made an emergency landing due to the illness of one of the crew members.
41-year-old Darren said that after landing in Split, Croatia, passengers were asked to remain on board until a replacement for the crew could be found.
After 90 minutes of waiting, they were informed that the delay would last until the next day. And after another 90 minutes of waiting, the staff stated that they should find accommodations for the night on their own.
Darren noted that he couldn't afford to pay for two hotel rooms, so they had to sleep on the 'cold, hard floor' of the airport.
“No one knew why we were making an emergency landing until one of the crew members said he was sick. If he was unwell, he shouldn't have been flying.”
Nightmare at the airport
After exiting the plane, Darren and his wife decided to stay at the airport with their three teenagers, as they didn’t know when they would be able to fly out again.
“The shops at Split airport were closed, so I couldn't feed my family — there was no food and restaurants nearby.”
Kennedy NewsThe family managed to fly out only at 1:45 PM the next day, and after landing in Crete at 6 PM, they lost almost an entire day of their vacation.
“I am completely frustrated with how this occurred and how they decided we would fly in the day.”
Darren also made sure his wife filed a complaint with EasyJet about the delay, but the company refused to refund them.
“EasyJet replied to my wife that they have no intention of paying any compensation because the plane had to make an emergency landing.”
Apology from the airline
After journalists approached EasyJet, the airline apologized for the difficulties the family experienced and promised to refund the costs for the 'lost night' as a 'gesture of goodwill'.
“We sincerely regret the experience Mr. Rain and his family had after their flight from Luton to Crete was diverted to Split due to the need for medical assistance for one of the crew members.”
