Ternopil identified the bodies of a mother and her 4-year-old daughter: victims of the strike on November 19.
According to ТСН: The bodies of 4-year-old Sofia Popik and her 35-year-old mother Tetiana were identified in Ternopil. The girl was recognized by her father.
This was reported by Svіtlana Humenna, a deputy of the Ternopil district council.
"As a result of the enemy's rocket attack on Ternopil on November 19, little Sofia Popik tragically lost her life. This was confirmed today. She was 4 years old. Sofia's mother, 35-year-old Tetiana Popik, and grandmother, 54-year-old Halyna Matskiv, died that fateful day," said Svіtlana Humenna.
According to Humenna, the father was able to recognize his daughter after two more bodies were found following the attack on November 19, on December 8. The body of Tetiana was confirmed through DNA analysis, as it could not be visually identified.
Earlier in Ternopil, a farewell was held for Sofia's grandmother, 54-year-old Halyna Matskiv, who also died during the rocket strike.
What is known about the victims in Ternopil
Tetiana Popik worked in the financial and economic department of the Ternopil Regional State Administration's Department of Capital Construction and was temporarily on maternity leave.
"The father, Roman, was well-known, they grew up in the same yard. Tanya was also known, her sister lived in this house. They recently moved here, three years ago. A good, calm family... they wanted a future, but it was taken away," recalled family friend Iryna.
As of December 10, the number of casualties during the Russian attack in Ternopil has risen to 38, among them eight children.
Three more people are still considered missing. On December 9, demolition of the high-rise building on Stusa Street, destroyed by an X-101 missile, began in the city.
Earlier, it was reported that Maria and her two children, who also died on November 19 from a Russian missile, were buried in Ternopil. Only the father, Kamal, survived. Journalists showed emotional footage of the farewell.
This tragedy in Ternopil has become yet another black day in the history of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Every lost life reminds of the horrific consequences of the conflict and the need for peace. Families who have lost their loved ones face immeasurable grief, and the community continues to seek ways to support each other in these difficult times.
