Drone Targets Belgorod Governor’s Meeting; 29 Flights Canceled at Pulkovo Airport.
Drone Incident in Russia’s Belgorod Region
According to TSN.ua: A drone attempted to strike a public gathering of Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, but was neutralized by a special unit of the Russian National Guard. No injuries or damage have been reported, according to officials.
Heightened Security in Saint Petersburg
In response to the attack, authorities in Saint Petersburg closed the city’s airspace due to the drone threat. As a result, at least 29 outbound flights were canceled at Pulkovo Airport, and roughly 10 aircraft were unable to land. Restrictions on takeoffs and landings disrupted regional air travel significantly.
Meanwhile, air defense forces reportedly shot down at least 10 drones in the Leningrad region. At the same time, flight restrictions at Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports were lifted. This incident highlights the growing focus on aviation security amid ongoing threats.
The drone attack in Belgorod and the subsequent security measures in Saint Petersburg underscore rising concerns over unmanned aerial vehicle threats in Russia. The closure of airspace and flight cancellations at Pulkovo reflect the seriousness of the situation and the need to ensure passenger safety. Such events may erode public trust in regional air travel and affect the overall aviation security landscape across the country.
