Attack on Borzna

According to UATV: On June 22, 2023, a Russian drone attack struck the town of Borzna in Chernihiv Oblast, igniting a private residence. The homeowner and his teenage daughter, aged 14, sustained injuries in the incident. The assault extended beyond this single case; a lyceum in Novhorod-Siverskyi also came under fire, suffering damage to its windows and doors.

Scope of the Assault

This large-scale overnight offensive by Russia targeted multiple regions across Ukraine, employing an Iskander-M ballistic missile alongside 88 attack drones. Vladyslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, commented on the events, stating:

“The Russians struck energy infrastructure.” - Vladyslav Chaus

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also voiced concern, remarking:

“Russia began not with honoring memory or signals to end the war, but with new unjustified killings.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

These developments underscore the ongoing conflict and the persistent dangers faced by civilians in Ukraine. The attacks on non-military targets, including homes and schools, highlight the severe humanitarian toll of the war.

This incident forms part of an escalation in violence within the region, reflecting continued Russian aggression in Ukraine. Strikes on civilian infrastructure, such as residential buildings and educational facilities, jeopardize the safety of ordinary people and have drawn international concern. The response from Ukrainian authorities and the global community to these acts of aggression could shape the trajectory of events in the area.
