Ukraine Secures Return of 302 Citizens in Latest Prisoner Exchange with Russia.
Second Phase of Prisoner Swap Concludes
According to Novyny.live: Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's military intelligence, has announced the completion of a second major prisoner exchange with Russia. This round, which took place in Geneva, resulted in the return of 300 Ukrainian service members and two civilians who had been held captive for extended periods. Such exchanges are a critical, though often difficult, component of the ongoing conflict.
Including this latest transfer, Ukraine has now successfully repatriated a total of 500 military personnel and two civilians through two exchange phases. The first phase occurred on March 5, bringing 200 Ukrainians home. Notably, some of those released had been in Russian captivity for nearly four years.
"More good news: as part of the second stage of the prisoner exchange, another three hundred of our Warriors have returned to Ukraine. We also managed to secure the release of two more civilians."
Kyrylo Budanov
Budanov extended his congratulations, stating: 'I welcome everyone back to their native land and wish them a swift recovery.' He emphasized that efforts are continuing, adding: 'We are working to ensure there will be as many such joyful emotions as possible.'
Ongoing Negotiations and Humanitarian Focus
The Office of the President continues to negotiate with the goal of securing the return of all Ukrainian citizens held in captivity. This second exchange phase represents a significant step in that process, and Ukrainian officials express hope for further successful outcomes.
Prisoner swaps between Ukraine and Russia constitute a vital humanitarian element of the war. The repatriation of soldiers and civilians not only reunites families but also provides a crucial morale boost for Ukrainian society. The Ukrainian government's active engagement in these talks demonstrates its commitment to protecting its citizens' rights under the extreme conditions of war, with the aim of facilitating further exchanges.
