DTEK and American GE Vernova will build the first digital substation in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian company 'DTEK', in partnership with the American GE Vernova, is building the first digital substation in the country. Upon completion, it will be able to supply electricity to more than 65 thousand households. This was announced by DTEK's CEO Maksym Timchenko, as reported by 'Gromadske'
Timchenko emphasized that such a modern digital electrical network is extremely important for enhancing the resilience of energy supply in Ukraine, increasing productivity, and meeting future demand. Furthermore, it lays the foundation for energy independence and the economic recovery of the country.
DTEK stated that GE Vernova technologies will be used for the implementation of the project. The total cost of the project will be EUR 15 million, of which EUR 11 million will be allocated by the French government in the form of a grant, while EUR 4 million will be invested by DTEK.
Pierre Elbroun, the special envoy of the French President for economic assistance and the recovery of Ukraine, noted this project as an important step in the cooperation between Ukraine and France in the energy sector.
The role of France in the recovery of Ukraine
Elbroun noted that France aims to support the recovery of Ukraine by providing modern equipment, technologies, and operational services that bring the country closer to EU standards. In this context, France supports the partnership between GE Vernova and DTEK, as this project will contribute to enhancing the resilience of Ukraine's energy system today and in the future.
The construction of the digital substation is part of 19 key energy infrastructure projects approved under the 'Fund for Ukraine' amounting to EUR 200 million. This agreement, concluded between the governments of Ukraine and France, aims to restore critical infrastructure, including the energy sector.
Preparatory work has already begun for the construction of the substation, and full implementation of the project will begin in the third quarter of 2025.
It is worth noting that liquefied gas supplies from the U.S. will help strengthen the energy security of Ukraine and Europe. Maksym Timchenko, while attending the international energy conference CERAWeek, discussed increasing liquefied gas supplies from the U.S. to Ukraine.
He noted that their idea is to build a bridge between the United States and Ukraine, between Europe and Ukraine. Ukraine, which has the largest gas storage facilities in Europe, should play an important role in ensuring the energy security of these regions.
