Ex-Head of Kyiv Region Military Enlistment Office Embezzled 8 Trucks Meant for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Criminal Case Against Former Military Enlistment Office Chief
According to TSN.ua: A former head of a district military enlistment office in the Kyiv region is now the subject of a criminal investigation for illegally seizing eight trucks worth over 4 million Ukrainian hryvnias. The vehicles were taken from private entrepreneurs under the pretext of being needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but they never reached the military.
The ex-official's actions have been classified under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers abuse of office. If convicted, the individual faces up to 12 years in prison. While three of the trucks, valued at around 1 million hryvnias, were eventually handed over to the Armed Forces, the whereabouts of the remaining vehicles are still unknown.
Undeclared Assets of a Deputy Military Enlistment Office Head
Separately, the investigation also uncovered undeclared property belonging to the deputy head of the Lviv regional military enlistment office, estimated at nearly 8 million hryvnias. These unreported assets include:
- a plot of land
- a residential house
- Mercedes and Nissan cars
These findings point to possible abuses in other regions, raising further questions about the transparency of military commissariats' operations.
This case highlights serious issues with transparency and oversight in Ukraine's military enlistment offices, which could undermine public trust in state institutions, especially during wartime.
