The raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is a mammal species from the canid family, originally native to East Asia.

This species was deliberately introduced to Europe in the first half of the 20th century for fur hunting. In Ukraine, the raccoon dog population is estimated at approximately 10,000 individuals. Notably, the species has been documented within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone since 2021. A raccoon dog's body length ranges from 50 to 68 cm, with a tail length of 13 to 25 cm. Their weight typically fluctuates between 4 and 6 kg but can reach up to 10 kg before hibernation.
