EU to Maintain Pressure on Russia, Says Top Diplomat Kallas, Outlining Ukraine Strategy.
EU's Commitment to Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: In the event of a breakdown in negotiations, the European Union will continue its support for Ukraine and intensify pressure on Russia, according to a statement by the EU's High Representative, Kaja Kallas. The Brussels strategy focuses on ramping up aid to Kyiv and increasing pressure on the Kremlin, aiming to influence the regional situation. These statements underscore the EU's consistent policy of backing Ukraine amid the growing challenges posed by Russian aggression.
Russia's Economic Struggles
The Russian economy is facing severe difficulties due to internal economic problems and international sanctions. The Russian Federation's authorities have raised taxes and are already encountering problems with mobilization resources. These factors could significantly complicate the financing of military operations. In the context of ongoing warfare, Russia's economic troubles present a significant vulnerability.
Currently, the EU has postponed a meeting with Ukraine in Cyprus because of the escalation of war involving Iran. Furthermore, at the end of 2025, the European Union was unable to complete the procedure for allocating a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
'If we maintain and increase this pressure, a moment will come when the aggressor simply cannot finance the war.' Kaja Kallas
A crucial part of this EU strategy involves not only financial assistance but also diplomatic pressure on Moscow, which could alter the balance of power in the region. The sustained military conflict and Russia's economic hardships mean such coordinated efforts could have a substantial impact on the prospects for peace and stability in Ukraine and surrounding nations.
