Hero of Ukraine explained why the Kursk operation benefited the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Hero of Ukraine, commander of the Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile division Yaroslav Melnyk spoke about the scale of the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. He noted that this operation forced Russia to engage reserves that it uses on its own territory, not on Ukrainian soil. In addition, in the Kursk area, the occupiers are recruiting even those who have never fought before.
Melnyk emphasized that the Kursk operation is a return of territory that was lost with the proclamation of Ukraine's independence. He added that many people do not understand the scale of this war, so they believe that control over a large area in the Pokrovske direction has been lost. This is incorrect, as the Russian Federation simply has more people than Ukraine. The operation turned out to be unexpected even under modern surveillance conditions.
Assessment of the Kursk operation
Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, American General David Petraeus noted that the Kursk operation hit the Kremlin's authority and demonstrated the weakness and incapacity of Russian forces. He emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully deployed four brigades to the Kursk region, catching the Russians off guard. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the importance of this operation, noting that it boosted the morale of Ukrainian soldiers and demonstrated the country's ability to advance.
According to reports, in the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated the commander of the Russian airborne assault regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Kurin. Additionally, residents of the Kursk region are turning to the Defense Forces commandant's office for help, as Russia refuses to assist its citizens who remain there.
