Amazing seafood cuisine in Mallorca

According to The Sun: I didn't expect the waiter to take my words so literally when I said: “No meat, but I love fish.”

After the eighth course of stunning seafood, I realized that I had stumbled upon one of Mallorca's best gastronomic secrets.

The Guethary restaurant is located next to the Iberostar Selection Playa de Palma hotel on the island's west coast.

Servings of local smoked octopus, meaty anchovies, and fish in lemon sauce in tomato water were accompanied by two pieces of grouper (breast and fillet).

If that doesn’t tire you out, then a bowl of baked figs with milk ice cream and one of the tastiest chocolate cakes with a molten center surely will.

“It’s no secret that TV presenter Marcus Wearing visited this place during the filming of his show ‘Marcus on the Mediterranean’.”

I booked a clean and stylish 5-star hotel, Iberostar Selection Playa de Palma, as part of a British Airways Holidays package.

If you just want to relax, this place is perfect for that, with a small spa, outdoor pool, and sandy beach just a minute's walk away.

Stylish rooms with ocean views and palm trees, with balconies where the sun shines for most of the day.

Great location for exploring Mallorca's gastronomy

The hotel is ideally located for exploring Mallorca's gastronomic scene, including Palma and its cobbled old town, which can be reached by bus in 20 minutes (only €2).

This is the place to try the island's famous pa amb oli, which translates to “bread with oil.”

It’s like an open sandwich, but much tastier, served with a myriad of Spanish toppings.

You can find it for about €6 at Bar Cabera, with anchovies and hard cheese or shrimp with aioli.

Over the last decade, the city has actively transformed buildings in the Old Town into trendy boutique hotels.

Hidden behind unremarkable wooden doors on a cobblestone street, you’ll find Can Cera, a former 17th-century mansion, now an intimate hotel with 14 rooms.

Be sure to stop by for a drink or food in its atmospheric courtyard.

If you prefer a quieter, more rural setting, head in the opposite direction from Palma to Mhares Sea Club, located a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

From this clifftop beach club, you’ll feel at the edge of the world, enjoying fantastic sunsets.

A true paradise for gourmets

While you’re there, try the lobster paella, served with a whole lobster on spicy rice, fried at the edges.

For a modern sushi restaurant with great views, visit the exquisite Katagi Blau.

It’s located on the top floor of the sister hotel of mine, Iberostar Selection Llaut Palma — and Sundays are dedicated to brunch.

Come hungry, as the five-course menu includes fruit yogurt, eggs to your liking, ham toast, and a variety of sushi, as well as chocolate desserts (if you can still manage them).

The whole meal will cost about €48, including a glass of sparkling wine.

With a satisfied belly, I spent the rest of the day relaxing on the rooftop and enjoying views of the golden coast while a musician played guitar.

If all this food didn’t put me into a state of sleep, then the sweet sounds of the Spanish musician certainly did.

Time for another siesta? Why not.
