Blindness Following Nose Surgery in Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: A 50-year-old patient in Kyiv has permanently lost sight in one eye after undergoing a procedure at a private medical facility. The surgery, which involved a nasal septum correction and removal of a cyst from the right maxillary sinus, led to a severe complication when the man reported vision loss shortly after the operation.
Investigation and Legal Action
Investigators determined that the vision loss resulted from injuries inflicted during the surgery. As a result, the otolaryngologist who performed the procedure has been notified of suspicion of improper professional conduct under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Authorities are currently examining all circumstances surrounding the incident.
This case has sparked public concern over the quality of care in private healthcare settings and the accountability of medical staff for potential harm caused by treatments. The ongoing investigation may lead to tighter regulations and oversight in the medical sector, while also raising patient awareness about the risks associated with surgical interventions.
It is crucial that incidents like this prompt improvements in safety standards within medical practice and ensure that physicians maintain the necessary level of expertise.
