Kyiv is not ready for attacks on the energy infrastructure

According to TSN.ua: Kyiv is not ready for attacks on the energy infrastructure, confirmed the newly appointed Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. According to him, the city is unprepared for possible power outages as a result of Russian attacks that occurred on January 9, when Russia launched a massive strike on the capital. After this strike, 6 thousand homes in Kyiv were left without heating, and there were also interruptions in water supply due to damage to substations, lines, and generation facilities.

Preparation of other cities

Denys Shmyhal noted that Kharkiv is better prepared for such situations.

“Kharkiv was preparing. Both regional and local authorities prepared the city. There are mobile boiler rooms, and the appropriate generation is distributed. Kyiv, unfortunately, was prepared much weaker. I would even say that it is not prepared at all. Therefore, now we have to take crisis measures,” he noted.

In addition, the capital's mayor Vitaliy Klitschko urged residents to leave the city, where there are alternative sources of power and heat, which can help avoid serious consequences in case of new attacks. The situation in Kyiv requires urgent action to ensure the energy security of residents.

This situation underscores the urgent need to improve Kyiv's energy infrastructure, as winter continues and the risks of new attacks remain high. The city authorities, as well as central management bodies, must take all possible measures to increase the resilience of the energy system to avoid the recurrence of similar crises in the future. At the same time, the mayor's call for residents to leave the city indicates the seriousness of the situation and the need for proactive measures to protect the population.
