Power, Heating, and Water Supply in Kyiv

According to TSN.ua: The situation with electricity, heating, and water supply in Kyiv remains difficult following a massive Russian attack. On January 20, Russian forces launched a combined strike on the capital, leaving 4,000 out of 5,635 multi-story apartment buildings without heat. However, utility workers have already restored the heating supply to over 1,600 residential buildings. These strikes are part of a wider Russian campaign targeting Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure, particularly during the harsh winter months.

Most of these buildings are being reconnected for a second time after critical infrastructure was damaged on January 9. The electricity situation in the capital is also severe, with scheduled blackout rotations currently not in effect.

Utility Services' Restoration Efforts

Utility services are actively working to restore the heating supply. As noted by Kateryna Pop:

“The situation will improve with better weather conditions. Although DTEK crews are currently working and eliminating accidents on emergency lines. The situation with heat supply and cold water supply is quite difficult.” - Kateryna Pop

The attacks on Kyiv highlight the vulnerability of the Ukrainian capital's infrastructure amid the ongoing war. Restoring heat and electricity is critically important for ensuring normal living conditions for residents, especially during winter. The efforts of utility services, along with forecasts for improved weather, may help mitigate the consequences of this emergency.
