Prosecutors File Case Over Winter Road Treatment Purchase, Citing Over 2 Million in Losses.
Head of Road Maintenance Department Faces Charges
According to TSN.ua: The Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv has submitted an indictment to the court against the head of the road maintenance department in the Solomianskyi district. The official is accused of professional negligence, which resulted in the loss of over 2 million hryvnias from the city's budget. The charges fall under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation has concluded, and nine managers of district road maintenance departments have already been notified of suspicion. This case highlights ongoing challenges in Ukraine's public procurement and municipal management systems. Meanwhile, during severe ice conditions this winter, more than 6,000 Kyiv residents sustained injuries, underscoring the critical need for effective winter road maintenance.
The Critical Role of Municipal Services
This incident emphasizes the vital function of municipal services in ensuring street safety during winter months. The significant loss of public funds and the high number of injuries point to systemic issues in infrastructure management.
Society demands effective measures to prevent similar situations in the future, as well as clear accountability for officials who fail to properly execute their duties.
