Kyslytsia outlined the areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the UN.
Ukraine is actively cooperating with the UN to strengthen food security, reliably provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by Russian shelling, rebuild the country, and document Russia's crimes, including environmental ones. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia.
In response to a question about the role and capabilities of the UN in supporting Ukraine during the 1000 days of full-scale invasion, Kyslytsia emphasized the importance of the UN in facilitating access for Ukrainian agricultural products to world markets and providing assistance to the poorest countries to ensure food security worldwide.
'Over 400 million people, primarily in Africa and Asia, rely on Ukrainian agricultural products,' Kyslytsia noted. He reminded that from the first day of the invasion, Russia attempted to block Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea, creating threats to global food security.
According to Kyslytsia, the UN plays an important role in stabilizing the situation thanks to the 'grain deal' initiated in July 2022.
With active support from the UN, Ukrainian food has again gained access to world markets.
Additionally, UN agencies have provided Ukraine with humanitarian assistance amounting to over 10 billion dollars since the beginning of the full-scale aggression. The UN is also involved in implementing projects for the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine, including repairing destroyed critical infrastructure facilities.
'The UN Development Programme is an important partner in providing assistance to Ukraine, particularly in reconstruction, demining, implementing green energy, and digitalization,' Kyslytsia noted.
The UN also helps to inform the international community about Russian crimes on Ukrainian territory, particularly regarding environmental damage.
Two weeks ago, a delegation from Ukraine organized an event at the UN on the topic 'Environmental Security in Times of War and Armed Conflict', during which the damage inflicted by Russia on Ukraine's environment was discussed.
