Kyslytsia: During the full-scale war, Russia has been excluded from a number of UN bodies.
Russia has lost certain positions in UN structures that it has held for a long time.
This was reported by the UN permanent representative Serhiy Kyslytsia, commenting on Ukraine's cooperation with the UN during the 1000 days of the Russian invasion.
'In particular, Russia has been deprived of its seat at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where it has been represented since 1946,' said Kyslytsia.
Additionally, Russian representatives were not re-elected to the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC) for 2023-2025, they were excluded from the Human Rights Council in Geneva for the period 2024-2026, and their membership was suspended by the executive body of the General Assembly. Russia also lost the vote regarding representation in the UN Commission on Science and Technology for 2025-2028, as well as the executive board of the World Food Programme for 2025-2027.
At the same time, Ukraine has successfully advanced in the leadership structure of many UN bodies. For example, Ukraine has become a member of the UN Commission for Social Development for 2023-2027, the executive board of 'UN Women' for 2022-2024, as well as the executive boards of the Development Programme, the Population Fund, and the Project Service Management for 2022-2024.
Furthermore, Ukraine is represented in the UN Contributions Committee, the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the UN Statistical Commission, and other bodies.
