Power Outage Sparks Protest in Kryvyi Rih

According to TSN.ua: On February 3, residents of several apartment blocks in Kryvyi Rih staged a protest over a prolonged power outage, blocking traffic on Dniprovske Highway. They reported having been without electricity for two full days. According to the protesters, power would return for only a few minutes at a time before cutting out again, causing significant hardship. Such extended blackouts are a recurring issue in parts of Ukraine, severely disrupting daily life.

Police were present at the scene to maintain order, but traffic flow was severely disrupted. Residents voiced their frustration, highlighting that children were left in the dark and unable to attend their online classes.

“DTEK says it's the housing office's fault, and the housing office says it's DTEK's fault,” explained one local woman.
The protesters warned that if no solution is found, they are prepared to take to the streets again.

Ongoing Supply Issues

While the blockade on Dniprovske Highway was later lifted, the underlying electricity supply problem remains unresolved. Similar protests over power cuts have been recorded elsewhere in Ukraine. For instance, in Khmelnytskyi, a man threatened to use a grenade during a rally, and the number of participants grew from over 20 to nearly 150. The situation in Kryvyi Rih underscores the urgency of addressing these critical infrastructure failures.

The frequent power outages in Ukraine, particularly in cities like Kryvyi Rih, reflect a broader pattern of public dissatisfaction with the quality of utility services. These disruptions impact not only daily routines but also the ability to work and study, a critical concern given the widespread reliance on remote learning and work.
