Kharkiv Region Plunged into Darkness: Power Outage Hits 80% Following Major Attack.
Aftermath and Official Response to the Kharkiv Strike
According to TSN.ua: A large-scale attack on Kharkiv on Monday evening has caused severe damage to the region's energy infrastructure, resulting in widespread power outages. Approximately 80% of the city and surrounding oblast are now without electricity following the assault by Russian forces, which has critically disrupted daily life for residents. This incident is part of a broader pattern where Ukraine's power grid has become a frequent target during the ongoing war.
The consequences of the strikes are severe, with two schools damaged and civilians reported injured. Specifically, two people were wounded in the shelling. To manage the strain on the crippled energy system, authorities have already implemented emergency power outage schedules.
Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, commented on the situation, stating: 'This was a combined attack.'
He further emphasized that 'our energy sector came under enemy fire.' Synegubov added that specialists are doing everything possible to restore power to the region as swiftly as they can.
Power Restoration Efforts and Guidance for Residents
Amid the ongoing emergency, work continues to repair the electrical supply. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and follow all instructions from emergency services.
Attacks like this on Kharkiv's infrastructure highlight the severe challenges faced by civilians in conflict zones, where access to basic services is weaponized. While government and utility companies are working on restoration, the extensive scale of the damage means full recovery could take a considerable amount of time.
