Fire in Hong Kong: 4 dead, people trapped in high-rise buildings.
According to ТСН: A large fire broke out in the high-rise residential complex Wang Fuk Court in the Tai Po district of Hong Kong. Four deaths have been reported, but the number of people who remain inside the buildings is currently unknown.
Hong Kong authorities confirmed that nine people have been hospitalized. Unfortunately, four of them have died, three are in critical condition, and only one injured person is in stable condition. Among the injured are firefighters who participated in extinguishing the fire.
Situation and Evacuation
Local media, citing police data, report that the number of people trapped in the buildings is currently unknown.
One resident, identified as Mr. Wong, could not hold back tears at the tragedy site, telling a reporter that his wife remains trapped in one of the buildings.
Developments
The fire was initially classified as a third-level severity on a five-point scale. However, due to the rapid spread of the flames, its level was subsequently increased to fourth and then to fifth – the highest level.
Photos from the scene show that the complex buildings were surrounded by bamboo scaffolding. Media reports indicate that this type of scaffolding is used in construction as an alternative to traditional steel structures due to its lightness, quick assembly, and high strength.
The situation remains tense, and rescue operations are ongoing. Local authorities urge residents to be cautious and follow emergency service instructions. The fire at Wang Fuk Court is not the only incident this week, as recent fire outbreaks in residential buildings in Ukraine have also been recorded due to drone attacks.
