Malaysian Man Breaks World Record with 42 Teeth.
A New World Record for Dental Count
According to TSN.ua: A Malaysian man, Prathap Muniaandi, has officially set a world record for the number of teeth in a human mouth, possessing a total of 42. This figure surpasses the average adult's set of 32 teeth by a full ten. The record was formally certified in early 2023, propelling Prathap to international recognition for this unique anatomical trait. While most adults have 32 teeth, including wisdom teeth, variations in number are a known but rare genetic occurrence.
Prathap Muniaandi first became aware of his dental uniqueness in 2021. During a casual family tea, he counted 38 teeth in his mouth. However, a subsequent X-ray revealed an additional four teeth that had previously gone unnoticed. This discovery was a pleasant surprise for him, as it paved the way for his eventual world record title.
“People are usually very surprised and initially don't believe it, especially when they learn I have ten more teeth than the average person, who has 32,” Prathap noted.
His story has garnered attention not only from friends and acquaintances but also on a global scale. This remarkable achievement has become a significant source of pride for him.
“It's an amazing feeling to know you are the world record holder for the number of teeth,” he added.
Notable Facts About Dental Records
Interestingly, the female record is held by Kalpana Balan from India, who has 38 teeth. Therefore, Prathap Muniaandi is not only a unique record-holder but has also drawn attention to the subject of dental anomalies in humans. His case highlights the fascinating diversity possible in human anatomy.
Prathap Muniaandi's world record for tooth count underscores broader scientific interest in genetic variations and human anatomical diversity. Such cases can prompt further research in dentistry and genetics, as they may offer insights into evolutionary changes and developmental biology. Studying these anomalies can help deepen our understanding of how dental features form and their implications for overall health.
