We outpaced the Russians. Chief of the General Staff Bargilevich revealed the plan of the Kursk operation.
In May, the enemy intended to advance in the Sumy direction from the Kursk region to create a 'buffer zone' in northern Ukraine. This was a continuation of the Russian operation in the Kharkiv direction. However, thanks to the Kursk operation, the Armed Forces outpaced the enemy. This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Anatoliy Bargilevich.
'No matter what they say, the Kursk operation showed: we can hit the enemy on their territory. The 'red lines' defined by the occupiers do not coincide with our 'red line', we have one – the preservation of our state, we must not let the enemy win,' emphasized Bargilevich.
According to him, there are currently about 50,000 elite enemy troops fighting in Kursk – these are marines and airborne troops. Almost 11,000 North Korean soldiers have also been brought there.
'For them (the Russian leadership), this is a critical issue, the Kursk region. Intense battles are ongoing there. Compared to other directions, the fighting in Kursk is quite heavy. Everyone understands that it is not just infantry fighting there, but elite Russian infantry and paratroopers. But we are holding our positions there. We are conducting maneuverable battles, retaining that territory, and believe me, quite successfully,' assured the general.
Over almost three months of operation, as of November, enemy losses in personnel in the Kursk direction amount to nearly 21,000 personnel. Of these, almost eight thousand have been eliminated, and more than 700 occupiers have been captured. More than a thousand units of enemy weapons and military equipment have been destroyed.
'I say again: war is a struggle of nerves, endurance, economy, and resources,' emphasized the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As a reminder, yesterday President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the number of North Korean troops in Russian territory reached 11,000. However, their number could soon increase to 100,000 soldiers.
Meanwhile, the Russian army has been preparing for a counteroffensive for several months and for pushing the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of Russian territory. However, the strength of the Russian military group in the Kursk region is not catastrophic, noted in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
As previously reported, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plans to reclaim the Kursk region from the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the inauguration of elected US President Donald Trump, that is, by January 20.
