No National Smartphone Ban for Ukrainian Schools

According to TSN.ua: Oksen Lisovyi, Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science, has stated that a nationwide prohibition on smartphones in schools is not currently a priority for his ministry. He clarified that there is no single legislative restriction on the use of mobile devices in educational institutions at this time, meaning a formal legal ban is not under consideration.

Individual schools retain the authority to implement their own rules regarding smartphone use. The topic of gadgets in the classroom is actively debated, and in this context, Oksen Lisovyi noted:

“The issue of gadgets in schools is actively discussed, and there are various practices around the world.” - Oksen Lisovyi

Varying International Approaches to Smartphones

Different countries employ various approaches to smartphones in schools; for instance, some require phones to be stored in special lockers during lessons. However, Ukraine currently lacks a unified national policy on this matter, granting each school the right to independently decide how to manage mobile device usage.

The decision against a nationwide ban suggests the Ministry of Education aims to maintain flexibility in teaching approaches. This policy allows Ukrainian schools to adapt models from international experience that best suit their specific students and educational processes. The role of technology in modern education ensures this issue will remain a key topic of discussion for educators and parents alike.
