Ukrainian women who want to serve in the Armed Forces must register for military accounting and undergo basic military training. However, military service remains voluntary for them. This information was published by TSN.

From February 1, 2025, mobilization will continue in Ukraine for men and women who are registered for military accounting. The procedure for mobilization is defined by the law 'On Military Duty and Military Service'. Currently, mobilization in Ukraine does not foresee voluntary military service for women, but those who wish to join the Armed Forces must register for military accounting and undergo basic military training.

Recently, a law on mobilization in Ukraine was adopted, which also concerns the mobilization of women.

According to the updated law on mobilization, from 2025, women will be able to serve in the Armed Forces only voluntarily. As for compulsory mobilization of women in Ukraine, there is currently no such bill in the Verkhovna Rada.

«Regarding one hundred percent mobilization, this is not being discussed», - lawyer Kateryna Onishchenko reported.

However, if women still want to join the Armed Forces, they should be aware of a few key nuances.

Mobilization 2025 for Women: Who is Considered Military Obligated

War experience shows that Ukrainian women actively join the ranks of the Armed Forces and voluntarily serve in the army. From February 1, 2025, mobilization for women will be carried out on the same voluntary basis as before: they can serve in the Armed Forces, but must register for military accounting and undergo basic military training.

After that, they are considered military obligated.

It is worth noting that female citizens of Ukraine with medical or pharmaceutical education who are of legal age are required to submit documents for military accounting. Exceptions are made in cases where there are grounds related to health issues.

Mobilization in 2025 also allows women to enter into a military service contract at their discretion. Those who are healthy and meet the age restrictions can also undergo basic military training for women.

The law on military service in Ukraine also provides that women may be exempted from service in cases of pregnancy or the need for maternity leave.

Let us remind you that on January 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada draft laws on extending the duration of martial law and conducting general mobilization.
