One-Year Post-Service Leave Granted to Young Contract Soldiers Under 25: Who Qualifies.
Leave Entitlement for Young Military Personnel
According to Novyny.live: Contract soldiers aged 25 or younger are now eligible for a 12-month leave period following the end of their service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, this benefit does not apply universally to all contract servicemembers. The one-year deferral after completing service is reserved for a specific group: those who signed a military contract after February 24, 2022.
Conditions for Receiving Leave
Under martial law, soldiers who signed a one-year contract and have completed it may exercise this leave entitlement. For example, a service member who finishes a three-year contract signed in 2023 would not qualify for this deferral. Yevhen Korniychuk stated:
“This guarantee is not provided for all military personnel aged 18–25.” - Yevhen Korniychuk
This highlights that the leave benefit is specific and not universal for all young soldiers.
It is crucial to note that the deferral applies only to a distinct category of individuals who enlisted under a one-year contract during active hostilities. Therefore, young servicemembers must carefully consider the terms of their contract signing, as this can affect their rights after discharge. This issue remains relevant as military operations continue and there is a need to support soldiers carrying out their duties on the front lines.
The rule regarding leave after contract service represents an important step in supporting young military personnel who risk their lives during the conflict. Nevertheless, its restriction to a specific group underscores the need for careful selection and contract conditions, which can influence morale and social protection for troops. In the context of ongoing warfare, such initiatives may help sustain motivation and readiness among young people to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
